1978–79 Carl Yastrzemski Game-Used & Signed Louisville Slugger Bat – MEARS A9 – JSA LOA In Progress (Greenshields Collection)

Exceptional Carl Yastrzemski game-used and signed Hillerich & Bradsby Louisville Slugger professional model bat dating to the 1978–1979 period of the Hall of Famer’s legendary career with the Boston Red Sox.

The bat has been professionally authenticated and graded by MEARS (Memorabilia Evaluation & Research Services), receiving an impressive final grade of A9 with certification number 323839. According to the accompanying MEARS Letter of Opinion, the bat exhibits extensive player characteristics and heavy professional use consistent with Yastrzemski’s documented game bats from the era.

MEARS notes include:
Heavy game use throughout
Heavy ball marks and deeply embedded stitch marks
Model C243 professional specification
Correct player number “8”
Factory records match
Taped handle preparation consistent with player use
36-inch ash bat with natural finish

The grading breakdown awarded the bat additional points for heavy use and player characteristics, resulting in the impressive final A9 designation.

The bat has been signed by Carl Yastrzemski in black marker along the barrel, adding exceptional display appeal to an already significant game-used example.

The autograph was submitted to James Spence Authentication (JSA) during the 2026 Montreal Expo and has successfully passed authentication. The official JSA Full Letter of Authenticity (LOA) is currently being processed and will be provided to the winning bidder once received.

One of the most iconic players in Boston Red Sox history, Yastrzemski remains among the most celebrated and collectible Hall of Famers of the post-war era. A member of the exclusive 3,000 hit club, 1967 American League Triple Crown winner, American League MVP, and first-ballot National Baseball Hall of Fame inductee, “Yaz” remains a cornerstone name among advanced baseball collectors.

High-grade authenticated game-used bats from Yastrzemski’s playing career are increasingly scarce, particularly signed examples displaying outstanding use characteristics and accompanied by respected third-party authentication.
