1923 V100 Willard's Chocolate Joe Wood - Cleveland Indians

Original 1923 V100 Willard's Chocolate baseball card featuring Joe Wood, also known as "Smoky Joe" Wood, of the Cleveland Indians.

Issued in Canada by Willard's Chocolates, the 1923 V100 series is a scarce vintage baseball card issue featuring prominent Major League players of the early 20th century. The cards are distinguished by their sepia-toned photographic images, simple borders and printed facsimile signatures.

This example depicts Wood in a fielding pose, with his facsimile signature printed diagonally across the lower portion of the photograph. The reverse bears a handwritten inscription in blue ink reading "Outfielder Cleveland Americans."

Wood enjoyed a remarkable Major League career, initially establishing himself as one of baseball's most dominant pitchers with the Boston Red Sox. His extraordinary 1912 season included a 34-5 record and a World Series championship. After arm injuries curtailed his pitching career, Wood reinvented himself as an outfielder with Cleveland, contributing to the Indians' 1920 World Series championship.
