1909–1911 T206 Nap Lajoie (With Bat) – Polar Bear Back (E.G.D. Collection)
Highly desirable and historically significant T206 tobacco card featuring Hall of Fame legend Nap Lajoie in the popular “With Bat” pose, one of the most recognizable player portraits from the famed T206 White Border series.
Issued between 1909 and 1911, the T206 set is widely regarded as the most iconic and important baseball card issue ever produced, featuring many of the game’s earliest superstars during the Deadball Era. Distributed through numerous tobacco brands, the set remains the foundation of vintage baseball card collecting and includes some of the hobby’s most legendary rarities and Hall of Fame subjects.
Nap Lajoie was one of the premier stars of early professional baseball and among the most accomplished hitters of his generation. A member of the Baseball Hall of Fame’s inaugural 1937 induction class, Lajoie captured multiple batting titles and was regarded as one of the dominant offensive players of the Deadball Era. His popularity and influence during baseball’s formative years were so significant that the Cleveland franchise was once unofficially referred to as the “Naps” in his honor.
This example features the classic “With Bat” pose against a vibrant sunset-toned background and displays strong overall eye appeal for the issue. The reverse features a Polar Bear Scrap Tobacco advertising back, one of the hobby’s most collected and distinctive T206 tobacco reverses. Polar Bear-backed examples remain especially popular among advanced collectors due to their scarcity relative to more common backs and their distinctive tobacco-era characteristics.
The card remains ungraded and exhibits visible age-related wear consistent with surviving examples from this highly collected pre-war issue.
